Our History |
Garfield Memorial Hospital was first established in 1974 when Intermountain Healthcare bought it from the LDS church. Construction on the present building was started and occupancy began in 1975. Remodel and addition projects including a nursing home have been completed since that time.
In 2000 when faced with significant financial challenges, there was a transfer of ownership from Intermountain Health care to Garfield County. A 1% sales tax was started to subsidize health care and remains in place today. Intermountain Health has managed the facility since that time and the hospital and nursing home continue to be an integral part of the community. The Garfield Memorial Health Care Foundation was established in 1978 as a non-profit organization to procure and disburse financial aid for the operation, maintenance and expansion of the hospital and other health care facilities in the Garfield County service area. Many fund-raising events have been held over the years with great support from the community. There have been numerous projects supported by the foundation as well as purchases of much needed state-of-the-art equipment. The Garfield Memorial Foundation Thrift store was established at its present location in 2002. Generous donations of goods and time from members of the community allow it to continue as a financial support to the mission of the foundation. |
